/PRNewswire/ -- New research adds to the growing body of evidence that modified citrus pectin (MCP), a natural supplement derived from the pith of citrus fruit, has a powerful effect against cancer. In a study just published in the March 2013 issue of the journal Integrative Cancer Therapies, MCP enhanced the anti-cancer effects of two botanical formulas, one for breast cancer and one for prostate cancer. The combination treatment decreased cancer cell aggressiveness, reduced migration and inhibited metastasis in highly metastatic MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells and aggressive, PC-3 hormone refractory human prostate cancer cells. The study was conducted by researchers at the Cancer Research Laboratory at Indiana University Health.

"Metastasis is what makes cancer so deadly," said head investigator Dr. Daniel Sliva, associate professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine. "It's no secret that specific proteins in cancer cells cause aggressive behavior. We now know that by combining modified citrus pectin with these formulas, we can further suppress aggressive cancer activity and significantly reduce metastasis."

The researchers determined that the breast and prostate formulas by themselves decreased cancer aggressiveness, measured by cell adhesion to human fibronectin, a key component in the extracellular matrix, as well as cancer cell migration and invasion. However, when combined with MCP, the anti-cancer effects of both formulas were significantly increased.

The unique anti-breast cancer formula, which contains botanically enhanced medicinal mushrooms, diindolylmethane (an active form of a compound found in cruciferous vegetables) and a variety of botanical extracts, decreased breast cancer cell adhesion by 21 %. However, when co-administered with MCP, researchers observed a 40 % decrease. The anti-cancer effects of this breast formula have been shown in previous published studies to reduce aggressive breast cancer proliferation and metastasis by up to 70 %. This is now the third peer reviewed study showing the safety and efficacy of this anti-breast cancer formula in pre-clinical models.

In addition, the unique anti-prostate cancer formula, which contains a comprehensive blend of antioxidants, herbal extracts, and botanically enhanced medicinal mushrooms, decreased prostate cancer cell adhesion by 9 % in this study. However, when MCP was added, adhesion was reduced by as much as 40 %. Cancer cell migration was also reduced by these combination therapies. This is the fourth peer reviewed published study to demonstrate the anti-cancer effects of this botanical prostate formula in pre-clinical studies.

"This study is very significant because it demonstrates the importance of combining targeted anti-cancer compounds which can work together synergistically for greater impact against the disease," said co-author and integrative medicine expert Isaac Eliaz, MD. "MCP makes these formulas significantly more effective. Furthermore, the powerful anti-cancer actions demonstrated by these combinations offer a safe and effective adjuvant therapy to patients with aggressive cancers who wish to increase the efficacy of their current treatment regimen."

The researchers also investigated levels of urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), a protein marker for aggressive cancers. High uPA levels have been found to promote cancer cell adhesion, migration and invasion. Both formulas have been shown in previous research to reduce uPA. Again, combining these formulas with MCP resulted in further suppression of uPA.

Numerous studies have shown that MCP binds and blocks galectin-3, a signaling protein associated with cancer aggressiveness, angiogenesis, aggregation and metastasis. MCP has also been found to significantly increase the immune response including natural killer (NK) cell activation, with demonstrated activity against human leukemia cells. Furthermore, in addition to its synergistic actions with botanical formulas, MCP has been shown to work synergistically with chemotherapeutic agents, such as doxorubicin, allowing for greater efficacy, lower dosages and fewer side effects.

<![CDATA[Dying prematurely.]]>Thu, 02 May 2013 06:28:50 -0800http://wellnessjustdoit.com/1/post/2013/05/dying-prematurely.htmlPicture
April 19, 2013. The results of a study described online on April 3, 2013 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggest that following guidelines established by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) and the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) could significantly reduce the risk of dying prematurely.

A team of European researchers examined data from 378,864 participants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition Study, which enrolled men and women between the ages of 25 and 70 between 1992 and 2000. Male participants were scored on their adherence to six WCRF/AICR recommendations, which included being as lean as possible without becoming underweight, being physically active as part of everyday life, limiting consumption of energy-dense foods and avoiding sugary drinks, consuming mainly plant-based foods, limiting the consumption of red meat and processed meat, and limiting alcoholic beverages. Women were scored on the same criteria, with the addition of breastfeeding their infants for up to six months.

Over a median of 12.8 years, 23,828 deaths occurred. Among men whose scores were highest at 5-6 points and women who scored 6-7 points, the risk of dying over follow-up was 34 percent less than those whose scores were lowest at 0-2 points for men and 0-3 points for women. The reduction was greatest for respiratory disease, followed by circulatory disease and cancer. Each point increase was associated with a 13 percent lower risk of dying over the follow-up period.

“Results of this study suggest that following WCRF/AICR recommendations could significantly increase longevity,” authors Anne-Claire Vergnaud and colleagues conclude. “These results are of primary importance to increase the awareness and the compliance of the population to those major recommendations as well as understand how to reduce the mortality burden worldwide.”

<![CDATA[Lose weight and get sexy abs!]]>Thu, 10 Jan 2013 07:30:12 -0800http://wellnessjustdoit.com/1/post/2013/01/loseweightand-get-sexy-abs.htmlPicture
Want to know the most effective ab exercises for developing beautiful, sexy six pack abs? According to a recent study by the American Council on Exercise's (ACE) the following are ten of the most effective exercises for working the abs:
Top Ten Most Effective Ab Exercise

Torso Track- The Torso Track is a advanced ab exercise and should be done with extreme care otherwise an injury can occur. To perform the torso track correctly: 1. Grip the handles of the Torso Track and pull the abs in without holding your breath (as though bracing them). 2. Exhale and glide forward as far as you comfortably can while still feeling stable. Caution: If you collapse in the middle and feel it in your back, you've gone too far. 3. While contracting the abs pull your body back to the starting position. Repeat as many as you can and perform to failure.

Long Arm Crunch - The long arm crunch is an ab exercise that emphasizes the upper part of the abs. To perform the long arm crunch correctly: 1. Lie on the floor, bench or mat. 2. Extend the arms straight out behind the head with hands clasped, keeping the arms next to the ears. 3. While keeping the arms straight contract the abs and lift the shoulder blades off the floor. Note: If you feel neck pain, take one hand behind the head while keeping the other arm extended. 4. Lower and repeat for 15-25 reps.

Reverse Crunch - The reverse crunch is a great exercise that works the entire abdominal area. To perform the reverse crunch correctly: 1. Lie on the floor and place hands on the floor or behind the head. 2. With the feet together or crossed, Bring the knees in towards the chest until they're bent to 90 degrees. 3. Contract the abs to curl the hips off the floor, reaching the legs up towards the ceiling. 4. Lower and repeat for 15-25 reps. Important Note: the reverse crunch movement is a very small movement, so try to use your abs to lift your hips rather than swinging your legs and creating momentum.

Bicycle Exercise - 1. Lie face up on the floor and lace your fingers behind your head. 2. Bring the knees in towards the chest and lift the shoulder blades off the ground without pulling on the neck. 3. Straighten the left leg out while simultaneously turning the upper body to the right, bringing the left elbow towards the right knee. 4. Switch sides, bringing the right elbow towards the left knee. 5. Continue alternating sides in a 'pedaling' motion for 15-25 reps.

Captain's Chair Leg Raise - The captain's chair leg raise is the second most effective move for the rectus abdominis as well as the obliques. You can do a variety of exercises on the captain's chair, which is a rack with padded arms that allows your legs to hang free and can be found in most health clubs and gyms. The key to keeping this move safe and effective is, first, to avoid swinging the legs or using momentum to bring the legs up. Second, keeping the knees bent will help you focus more on the abdominals and less on the hip flexors. To do it right: 1. Stand on chair and grip handholds to stabilize your upper body. 2. Press your back against the pad and contract the abs to raise the legs and lift knees towards your chest. 3. Don't arch the back or swing the legs up. 4. Slowly lower back down and repeat 15- 25 reps.

Exercise Ball Crunch - The exercise ball crunch is an excellent exercise for targeting the rectus abdominis. To do the exercise crunch correctly: 1. Lie face-up with the exercise ball resting under your mid/lower back. 2. Cross your arms over the chest. 3.Lift your torso off the ball. 4. Pull the bottom of your ribcage down toward your hips as you curl up. Note: keep the ball stable (i.e., you shouldn't roll). 5. Slowly in a controlled fashion lower your body back down, getting a stretch in the abs. Repeat for 15-25 reps.

Vertical Leg Crunch - The vertical leg crunch is another effective ab exercise that targets the rectus abdominis. The vertical leg crunch also works the obliques (side of the abs). To perform the vertical crunch correctly: 1. Lie face up on the floor and extend the legs straight up with knees crossed. 2. Contract the abs and lift the shoulder blades off the floor, as though reaching your chest towards your feet. 3. Keep the legs in a fixed position and imagine bringing your belly button towards your spine at the top of the movement. 4. Lower and repeat for 15-25 reps.
Full Vertical Crunch - To perform the vertical crunch correctly: 1. Lie on your back and extend the legs up towards the ceiling. 2. Place hands behind your head (lightly cupping it, do NOT Grab behind the head). 3. Contract the abs and lift the shoulder blades off the floor, while simultaneously pressing your heels towards the ceiling. The goal is to create a 'u' shape with the torso. 4. Lower back to the starting position slowly while keeping a tight core. Repeat for 15-25 reps.

Ab Rocker - Although I am not a huge fan of ab machines, the ACE Study found the Ab Rocker to be #9 on the Top 10 Ab exercises. To perform the ab rocker ab exercise correctly: 1. Sit on the Ab Rocker and grab the bars in each hand. 2. Contract the abs and rock forward, originating the movement from the abs rather than using momentum. 3. Release and repeat for 1-3 sets of 15-25 reps. Note: the key to this exercise is to perform the ab movement slowly to reduce momentum and increase the tension on the abs. Another important tip is to focus on the abs and not use the arms.

Plank on Elbows and Toes - The plank exercise although ranked number 10 in the ACE study is a extremely effective exercise for building a strong core. The Plank on Elbow and Toes ab exercise is a great exercise that helps build a strong core, since besides working the abs the Plank on Elbows and Toes also works the back and several core stabilizer muscles. To perform the plank on Elbows and Toes correctly: 1. Lie face down on mat resting on the forearms, palms flat on the floor. 2. Push off the floor, raising up onto toes and resting on the elbows. 3. Keep your back flat, in a straight line from head to heels. 4. Tilt your pelvis and contract your abdominals to prevent your rear end from sticking up in the air. 5. Hold for 20 to 60 seconds, lower and repeat to failure.

Remember to use GC control in your diet and Access Bars before you work out!

Modified Citrus Pectin

Whether you're looking for long-term cancer prevention, cardiovascular support, immune health or overall wellness, my top recommendation is Modified Citrus Pectin.

Derived from the peel of citrus fruit and modified to meet specific molecular characteristics, MCP directly attacks chronic diseases by blocking excess galectin-3 molecules throughout the body. At high levels, galectin-3 promotes cancer growth/metastasis and fuels chronic inflammation and fibrosis in heart disease and numerous other related conditions.

Modified Citrus Pectin is the only proven natural galectin-3 blocker, making it an excellent solution for a wide range of health issues. Additionally, MCP is clinically proven to safely detoxify heavy metals from the body, without affecting essential minerals, and is also shown to offer powerful immune support. As research continues, it’s clear that MCP is an important daily supplement for promoting and protecting overall health and longevity.

<![CDATA[Common nutrient kills 97% of prostate cancer cells]]>Tue, 11 Dec 2012 10:07:36 -0800http://wellnessjustdoit.com/1/post/2012/12/common-nutrient-kills-97-of-prostate-cancer-cells.htmlPicture

Have you ever wondered why some prostate cancers are aggressive and deadly, while others grow so slowly that they're unlikely to kill you before you die of something else? Researchers from the University of Missouri may have found the answer. And what they found reveals an easy way to kill both types of prostate cancer.

The researchers found that the cells of prostate tumors have low levels of two important proteins. These proteins (perforin and granzyme B) work together to kill cancer cells. In order to kill a cancer cell, your cells must have both of these proteins in ample amounts. Low levels can slow a cancer's spread. But when the protein levels are too low or they go inactive, there's nothing to hold the tumor back. That's when it becomes aggressive and deadly.

These researchers then wanted to find out if they could increase the levels of these proteins, or at least increase the "expression" of the proteins that are present. ("Expression" refers to the proteins' active ability to induce apoptosis, or cell death, on the tumor cells. How expressive the proteins are is even more important than how many you have.) So they gave exposed prostate cancer cells to resveratrol. And the results were fantastic.

They found that the resveratrol highly increased the proteins' active expression. It increased their expression so much that the proteins were able to kill off 97% of the tumor cells! This is absolutely incredible!

We've known for some time that resveratrol was effective at killing many types of cancers. I've read letters from people who cured their cancer by taking the nutrient. But we've never known for sure how it works or why it's so effective. Now we know.

While you shouldn't rely on one nutrient or one treatment alone to treat cancer, resveratrol can be an effective way to help combat the disease if you have it. If you don't have cancer, resveratrol is a must for prevention. It's one of my favorite nutrients and one you should take every day. Not only does it fight cancer, but it's great for your heart and your brain as well.

Whenever you throw a load of dirty laundry into the wash, you have high expectations. You expect clothes, towels, and linens to not only be clean, but bright and smelling fresh. That's asking a lot from your laundry detergent. But that's no problem for MelaPower.

MelaPower out-cleans and out-brightens national brands.
Not even industry heavyweights like All®, Tide® Total Care™, or Cheer® measure up to MelaPower's dirt-removing power. In an industry-standard test, soiled fabric swatches were washed with each detergent in a tergotometer. Then a colorimeter checked the fabric's change in brightness. The results show that MelaPower removed dingy dirt and grime better than these competing brands.

Real people. Real stains. Real cleaning power.
Your laundry is only as clean as the dirtiest item in the wash. That's why MelaPower not only cleans, but its Rinse Guard™ technology prevents the "redeposition" of stains onto other clothes. Dirt comes off and stays off—unlike any other detergent.

More cleaning power in every drop.
The competition adds a lot of water just to fill up their big bottles! So you've got to use a lot of their product in every wash load. MelaPower is 6 times more concentrated than most grocery store brands. Why should you pay for shipping water from the manufacturer? We figure your washing machine can add all the water you need.

Cancer is a dreaded diagnosis, but we probably have a lot more ability to prevent cancer than we think. In fact, scientists estimate that almost 80 percent of cancers are caused by or worsened by negative influences in our lifestyles, including smoking, obesity, inactivity and alcohol.
Poor diet is an especially big culprit, perhaps even bigger than smoking -- up to 35 percent of cancer may be due to dietary excesses and deficiencies, especially deficiencies of essential nutrients coupled with excesses of nutrient-poor processed foods.

This is the reason we recommend the vitamins and supplements that we do, they are patented and proven to be up to 10 times more absorbable in your body. This is critical!

Also, you can’t address just this part of your life without cleaning up your home environment!
You MUST get rid of the toxic poisons in your home!!!
We can help you do this while saving you money at the same time.

<![CDATA[A soft drink a day raises prostate cancer risk:]]>Wed, 28 Nov 2012 08:03:25 -0800http://wellnessjustdoit.com/1/post/2012/11/a-soft-drink-a-day-raises-prostate-cancer-risk.htmlPicture

Men who drink one normal-sized soft drink per day are at greater risk of getting more aggressive forms of prostate cancer, according to a Swedish study.

"Among the men who drank a lot of soft drinks or other drinks with added sugar, we saw an increased risk of prostate cancer of around 40 percent," said Isabel Drake, a PhD student at Lund University.

The study, to be published in the upcoming edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, followed over 8,000 men aged 45 to 73 for an average of 15 years.

Those who drank one 330-millilitre (11-fluid-ounce) soft drink a day were 40 percent more likely to develop more serious forms of prostate cancer that required treatment.

The cancer was discovered after the men showed symptoms of the disease, and not through the screening process known as Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA).

Those who ate a diet heavy on rice and pasta increased their risk of getting milder forms of prostate cancer, which often required no treatment, by 31 percent, while a high intake of sugary breakfast cereals raised the incidence of milder forms of the cancer to 38 percent, Drake told AFP.

While further research was needed before dietary guidelines could be changed, there are already plenty of reasons a person should cut back on soft-drink consumption, she noted.

The men in the study had to undergo regular medical examinations and kept a journal of their food and drink intake.

Previous studies have shown that Chinese and Japanese immigrants in the US develop prostate cancer more often than peers in their home countries.

Further research on how genes respond to different diets would make it possible to "tailor food and drink guidelines for certain high-risk groups," Drake said.

There are ways to satisfy your sweet tooth and the need to sip on a drink during the day. We can show you great alternatives that are not only delicious but good for you and much cheaper than your soda!

<![CDATA[Exercise? How much and why?]]>Mon, 26 Nov 2012 08:57:15 -0800http://wellnessjustdoit.com/1/post/2012/11/exercise-how-much-and-why.htmlPicture
OK, so you are not overweight, and our diet is pretty good, but every time we turn around, it seems like we are being told that we must exercise to be healthy. Is exercise really all that important? A: Studies show an unmistakable link between physical activity and health. An estimated 250,000 deaths per year in the United States can be related to lack of regular exercise. You can reduce this risk by incorporating even small amounts of exercise into your day.

Some examples of the role that exercise, or lack of it, plays in the development of diseases includes:

Heart disease: Individuals who are inactive are more than twice as likely to develop heart disease than those who enjoy an active lifestyle. Exercise, especially aerobic activity, helps to strengthen the cardiovascular system, boosting endurance and stamina and supporting blood vessels. In a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, brisk walking (3-4 mph) reduced the risk of heart disease in women nearly as much as vigorous non-walking exercise, as much as 54 percent reduction in risk.

Hypertension (high blood pressure): Blood pressure is influenced by many things, some of which we can't control such as family history. Still, there are many controllable factors associated with hypertension, including diet and exercise.

Diabetes: People with Type I or Type II (non-insulin dependent) diabetes can benefit from regular exercise. Physical activity helps to regulate blood sugar, aids in metabolism and reduces risk factors for arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), which occurs more often in diabetics. If you have diabetes, certain precautions must be taken when you exercise. The American Diabetes Association recommends that any diabetic wishing to start an exercise program first consult with a physician. We also recommend Drinking a GC control shake at least once a day.

Stroke: Studies have shown that people who burned 2,000 calories each week with exercise, or the equivalent of a 1 hour brisk walk, five days per week, had a 46 percent lower risk of stroke than those who did little or no exercise

Osteoporosis: Because bone is living tissue, it responds well to a properly designed exercise program. Weight-bearing (standing) exercise such as walking is beneficial, as is light to moderate weight lifting. Both help to prevent osteoporosis and can slow bone loss if it has already begun.

Tips: Consult with your doctor for proper guidelines before beginning any exercise program. While exercising regularly can be a challenge, research shows that if you can stick with it for three weeks, then you are much more likely to make it a habit. Along with helping to prevent many diseases, being active reduces stress, burns body fat, tones the muscles and helps control appetite.
